Si Scott playing cards

Thanks to Saeed I can say that the box designs for the cards isgoing to help me in packaging, and they are good to look at. It gives me an idea of possible materials i can use to make the box, card, shiny card or something lighter.si scott is known for his fluid style that could grace a formal occasion.

Easter scans!

Portraits of my aunties, I apprechiate them staying so still for me :) all good practice.

A lion with a mane of  fire lillies, somehow this fills in the 'fantasy' category for me. Though I wish I didn't sketch in pen for this one.

I do not use tarot cards, however I remembered I had some to scan in, these are my favourite two

This is the back of the unicorn card, keeps to the theme and has a classical feel.

I can't begin to name them all but these crystals just sit there in a dish on my shelf, I figured I could make the card boarders decorative if I just use some stones. They slid down my scanner too so I'm surprised at the spacing in between!

People portrait..?

I love how he has NOTHING to do with this project, 'cept the fact I was drawing people in profile and was in the mood for trying out a more realistic style. I fell flat on my ass because he still has that cartoony style. I cheated and used a reference to make this :) Anyways.. it's Sid, he gave me a break from drawing fantasy for a while. Next up I will scan mom's tarot cards and other things to help me draw the card boarders.

These are sketchy ideas for type on the tarot cards, done in ink pens.

Sketchbook scans part 4

Some sketches with combined techniques of ink and water, things get interesting here by just simply observing pictures and drawing them.

Fantasy- horse to unicorn! i mention why i want to use a horse on a card.

The anatomy is well off..the legs were the biggest dissapointment, I edited the original in PS and used the heal brush to make a boarder sort of patter, since tarot cards usaully have a boarder, this was just a lucky accident.
I am recording sketches of people, faces, expression and bodies so that i can use this research in some of the tarot cards, I'm drawing them so I can improve the look and feel of my FMP.

Sketchbook scans # 3

I looked at other tarot cards and thought of something to symbolize 'the sun'; I chose the sunflower, it may serve as a sketch to turn into a background for a card, at the moment I'm in the planning stages of the cards

-
I have my people sketches and card imagary coming up in the next scans! Til then~

Sketchbook scans # 2

My research into tarot cards and comparing different set designs.
Research into packaging for when I start making my own!
More packaging, I really like some of these, the audience for the first page is more child-like, rather than the right side which is more mature.

 Reasearch into Salvador Dali Surrealist.
Research into random illustrations on the net~ I went for different variety such as traditional styled to more modern styles that are close to Si Scott.
More illustrations, this is a traditional one- a scan from a presumable old book, it can change the mood dramatically when you change the way things are drawn.
On the cards I will add my own typography, but I will make it hand rendered to suit my style as well as sympathise with the tarot card it's on. These were close ups on some designs I worked on at break.

This isn't really relavent, but it's the front of my sketchbook :D

Sketchbook scans # 1

From now onwards I will scan my sketchbook as I progress, here I uploaded my final logo for the theme of parents. The narrative is the mother carries the child while the father is furthur down supporting them both- I have shown this through my typography. The logo is inversed, mono and colour.
The plans towards the logo involved a family tree, yin and yang to symbolise male/female and the differences. I used wings because guardian angels are the same as parents, they protect you.
My research into David McKean showed me how diverse a topic can be made and how to go around it, he has alot of talent and experience as a designer and other things.

His tarot cards were the first things that inspired me to make my own, after realising my mother sometimes uses then when she's in the right mood. His technique here is digital, he used Barnbrook's font here too.

The end of research into McKean's fantasy worlds, and then over to one of my sketches of a fairy, I want to show a few more sketches of people so I have something to base my tarot cards on.

Final Pieces Planning

What I have decided on:
I am going to keep to my fantasy theme and use angels to represent my mother's 6 favourite cards, each card will be designed and hold both graphic and Illustration arritubutes.
Her six favourite cards:

Opening

Our final major project is -parents.
I have chosen to pay tribute to my mother and base my project around her and her interests and how she inspires me. For instance she has kept my old drawings and inspired me to keep going for my dream, she always has been encouraging :)
